Our Vision Statement

"To help the Auckland Zoo to highlight the interdependence of human and animal welfare"

Auckland Zoo Charitable Trust

The Auckland Zoo Charitable Trust was started in 1992 with a bequest left by a local resident Alma Shanks.  The Trust was set up to assist with the fundraising and planning for major projects that support the conservation, research and education work of the Auckland Zoo. See background page.

Since then, we has raised over $NZ10M towards some very exciting developments at the zoo. See projects page.

The Zoo Trust is a small and dedicated team, chaired by Penny Whiting, MBE. Many know Penny for her sailing prowess and her famous summer sailing school but her passion lies in the care and survival of the wildlife on our planet. See background page.

Te Wao Nui has been our most significant development at the Auckland Zoo since it opened in 1922 and will bring together all unique fauna, flora and culture into one amazing journey of discovery for all visitors to the zoo to experience.

The Auckland Zoo Charitable Trust is a registered charity with the Charities Commission – registration number CC 21808

Giving to the Zoo Trust is a great way for you to make sure that the Auckland Zoo continues to develop as a modern, open and internationally recognised zoological park AND that the wildlife we have and love today will still be around for future generations.
